Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the documented US KG521M support both a carafe and a portafilter?
Yes. The model-specific sheet names both and a stored portafilter adapter. It does not establish every handle diameter or the same dosing behavior in both arrangements.

The exact US sheet states350 g beans and removable upper burrs. Check the complete parts and applicable cleaning procedure for the actual unit.

That combined workflow is not established by the material read. A digital display and adjustable strength are not proof of a scale controlling motor stopping.
Explore this need in the finder →The US KG521M is a specific Dedica configuration, not a name to apply to every DeLonghi grinder. The original model sheet identifies a digital conical grinder with a 350 g bean hopper, a collection carafe and direct portafilter output. Those features make it relevant to a mixed home brewing setup, but buying an older example calls for more attention to parts and operating edition than simply recognizing the stainless appearance.
Two receiving arrangements are the useful distinction
The manufacturer sheet explicitly describes dispensing into a storage carafe or an espresso portafilter, and it lists storage for the portafilter adapter. That supports comparing two real receiving arrangements. It does not establish that every handle diameter will fit, or that every quantity function operates identically with either receiver.
If you make a filter pot and espresso in the same kitchen, ask how often you will swap receivers. Check that the actual unit includes the relevant adapter and collection parts. A used grinder pictured with only the body is not equivalent to a complete setup just because the model number is correct.
A digital display is not proof of grind-by-weight
The sheet names cup, grind and strength adjustments, including light, normal and strong choices. Those are useful interface descriptions, but they do not establish an integrated scale controlling the motor. Nor does a display establish a user-programmable seconds mode by itself.
Before choosing this model for a specific automated dosing requirement, obtain the complete operating instructions for the supplied edition. If your essential request is “stop at a selected weight directly into my handle, ” the material read for this review does not confirm that combination. Treat the missing confirmation as a buying check rather than filling it with a plausible assumption.
Bean reservoir and brew range
The model-specific US sheet lists 350 g whole-bean capacity and 18 grind settings, with espresso, drip/pour-over and French press as intended applications. The larger reservoir can make sense when repeatedly brewing one coffee. It does not demonstrate a supported empty-hopper, pre-weighed single-dose routine.
Likewise, the named espresso range is manufacturer guidance rather than an independent particle or extraction test. A buyer with a demanding nonpressurized basket should look for more exact workflow evidence, including adjustment behavior and handle compatibility, instead of relying on the number of positions alone.
Cleaning access is documented, but follow the actual procedure
Removable upper burrs are an explicit feature in the manufacturer sheet. That is a useful distinction from a grinder whose reservoir comes off but whose burr access is unspecified. It does not replace the release, cleaning and refitting instructions for the actual appliance.
When considering an older unit, check that the burr assembly and hopper seat correctly and that the adapter and container are present. Do not improvise disassembly from a product photograph. A complete set of functional parts can matter more to a usable purchase than a minor finish difference.
US electrical identity is established
The US front matter visually identifies KG521M and 120 V/60 Hz, 150 W. That establishes the reviewed supply version. It should not be replaced with a 220–240 V specification from another regional manual, nor should another country's plug be treated as the only difference between versions.
The exact current US support page still names KG521M. Support availability is useful for identifying documents; it does not establish stock, a new production date or an unchanged accessory bundle. The original specification sheet is dated 2016 and explicitly says features and colors were tentative.
Check dimensions from the appliance, not the carton
The archived US sheet leaves unit dimensions unfilled but supplies carton dimensions. Those are packaging measurements, so this review does not turn them into an appliance footprint. If the grinder must fit under a low shelf, measure the actual unit and allow space to load beans and remove the collection parts.
The KG521M is therefore a supported reference for a real US digital Dedica with two receiving options, a substantial hopper and upper-burr access. Its suitability for a precise stopping mode remains a question for the complete operating edition. Sources are the original model sheet and exact US support reference; no unperformed hands-on test is implied.
