EVCG-8B; US120Vmanual editionIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A hands-on V60 brewer wanting to grind into a supported dripper, with conventional collection also available.

The main tradeoff

The Auto contact switch is manually controlled by the dripper, not a programmed time or selected-weight finish.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does Auto stop at a selected weight?

No. The documented Auto routine is a V60-dripper contact switch. Positioning or withdrawing the dripper controls grinding; it is not integrated weighing.

Is it intended for filter coffee, and can I clean the upper burr?

Yes. Pour-over is its central documented application, and the original guide gives an upper-burr removal and refitting procedure.

Does the original guide also name coffee press?

Yes. The original grind-adjustment page names a coffee press as well as home espresso and siphon. That is maker guidance, not a specialist espresso test.

The EVCG-8B is a V60-centered electric grinder with a useful physical interaction: a dripper presses against a switch to grind directly into its filter. That makes it different from a container-only batch machine. It is also important to understand the word Auto correctly: the dripper-operated contact is not a selected-time or selected-weight dosing program.

A grinder arranged around the dripper

For a pour-over routine, direct collection in a supported V60 dripper can remove a separate transfer from a bin. You still need to measure the coffee and arrange the filter and dripper correctly. A contact switch does not establish how much coffee your recipe requires.

The original guide also describes ordinary on/off collection into a canister or other receiving vessel. Choose the receiving routine according to your brewer. A supported dripper position should not be reinterpreted as a universal espresso-handle fork.

Auto is controlled by your position at the switch

The operator brings the V60 dripper to the contact pad and withdraws it to stop grinding. The alternative On position runs until switched off. Both are hands-on control arrangements, so this review does not classify the machine as automatically stopping at a programmed duration or a measured mass.

If your main problem is repeating an exact dose, use a scale to establish what was collected. That can make a manual routine useful, but it does not turn the grinder into a closed-loop weight system. If you want to select a target and return to a finished dose, start with a different documented control.

Pour-over focus, with broader maker guidance

Hario's 2021 catalog describes conical burrs made for pour-over and identifies the dripper switch for the EVCG version. The original adjustment page also names home espresso, siphon and coffee press across its 24 positions. Those are intended-use starting points rather than independent performance results.

The pour-over focus is therefore real, but it does not require pretending that every other method was excluded. Conversely, the broad home-espresso wording is not proof of the adjustment precision demanded by every nonpressurized basket. Match the evidence to the actual question you are asking.

Working space needs more than the body dimensions

The catalog gives width 133 mm, depth 220 mm and height 390 mm. Those describe the appliance body, not all the clearance needed to open the hopper, position a dripper and remove collected coffee. Consider the actual brewing stand and counter arrangement as well as whether the housing fits beneath a shelf.

Be careful with capacity labels. The catalog's 100 g entry refers to grounds, not a verified whole-bean hopper capacity. A large bean requirement should not be satisfied by copying a number from the receiving side.

Upper-burr maintenance is documented

The original guide describes removing the hopper, releasing the adjustment collar with an unlock control and lifting the upper burr by its handle. It then gives a refitting sequence. Unplug first and follow alignment marks; forcing a carrier that is not seated is not a cleaning shortcut.

The original US manual identifies 120 V/60 Hz. Keep that edition separate from other regional suffixes, and inspect the label on an older purchase. An available catalog or manual does not confirm the condition or completeness of an individual used unit.

The EVCG-8B is best understood as an earlier, dripper-friendly conical reference for a hands-on brewer. It is less suitable for a requirement that the grinder itself measure and finish a dose.
